Fire Studio
March 12th – June 18th 2020
Fire has a unique place in human history both as threat and tool. It has destructive and restorative potentials. This studio examined in detail the recent events of the 2019/2020 fire season in Australia, in particular the complex factors that lead to unprecedented devastation of the landscape, social infrastructures and loss of life. Whether ecological, environmental or sociopolitical, a territorial reconstruction of the events led to a series of design research investigations; each proposing the role and potential impact of human interventions into the contemporary Australian landscape, and it’s future management systems.
